2019-20 Ranck Prize For Research Excellence Recipient Announced

The 2019-20 recipient of the Ranck Prize for Research Excellence is Susan Mapp, Professor of Social Work. The Professional Development Committee chose Mapp from nominations submitted by faculty peers. In addition to receiving a monetary award and a supplement to her professional development fund to support ongoing scholarly activity, Mapp will present a lecture on Wednesday, April 1, 2020 at 11 a.m. in High Library.

Congratulatory Statement from the
2019-2020 Ranck Prize Selection Committee:

The Committee commended Dr. Mapp on her outstanding record of scholarship, including authorship of four books published by Oxford University Press, six book chapters, and 21 peer-reviewed publications. She has made a significant impact on her field publishing the textbook, Human Rights and Social Justice in a Global Perspective: An Introduction to International Social Work, soon to be in its third edition. Dr. Mapp has presented her research internationally and serves as the founding co-editor-chief of the Journal of Human Rights and Social Work. The committee noted her scholarship strongly ties into the college’s values of social justice and human dignity.

Ranck Prize Background:

Robert O. Kerr ’64 and Mary Ann Kerr ’64 established the Ranck Prize for Research Excellence as a permanent endowment to award a full-time faculty member of Elizabethtown College and to commend and celebrate excellence in research and commitment to his or her field of study. The prize honors John P. Ranck ’58, faculty member emeritus and former chair of the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, for “his inspirational service to countless students at Elizabethtown College.”
