Elizabethtown College to Host Monday Music Series

During October and November, Elizabethtown College’s Department of Fine and Performing Arts will host a series of free Monday evening music events open to the public and held on the college campus.

Join the community in celebrating the following musical performances:

Monday Series Concert: David Cullen, guitar
Monday, Oct. 7 at 7:30 p.m.
Leffler Chapel and Performance Center
Description: Grammy Award Winning Guitarist and Elizabethtown College Artist in Residence, David Cullen, presents an evening of music by Jazz Guitar Icon, Pat Metheny. David Cullen will be joined by pianist Kirk Reese, who teaches piano at Messiah College and the Elizabethtown College Preparatory Division. Chico Huff, veteran bassist from Philadelphia who has performed with James Taylor and Carly Simon, will be performing on bass. Chris Hanning, Dean of the Wells School of Music, West Chester University, will be performing on drums. Pat Metheny is one of the most important voices in modern music. Through his writing, recordings, and performances he has created a significant body of work that places him among the major musical figures of our time. With his induction into the Downbeat Hall of Fame, Metheny becomes only the fourth jazz guitarist to be chosen for that honor, joining Charlie Christian, Django Reinhardt, and Wes Montgomery. He has won 20 Grammy Awards in twelve different categories, been named Best Guitarist in countless polls over four decades and has sold millions of records worldwide.

Monday Series Concert: Anne Gross, soprano
Monday, Oct. 21 at 7:30 p.m.
Leffler Chapel and Performance Center
Description: Anne Gross, soprano, and guest artist Thomas Bandy, piano, present an evening of art songs from Austria, France, Wales, Spain, Germany, and the United States. The recital will feature works by Franz Schubert, Cécile Chaminade, Morfydd Owen, Enrique Granados, Richard Strauss, and Tom Cipullo.

Monday Series Concert: Justin Badgerow, piano
Monday, Nov. 18 at 7:30 p.m.
Leffler Chapel and Performance Center
Description: The program will be a celebration of Brazilian music. This recital will be in conjunction with an album release of Brazilian solo piano music which was made possible through grants from E-Town College and Music Teachers National Association. Performances will feature music for piano solo by Justin Badgerow with a few added duo selections with guest clarinetist Michael Lippard, faculty at York College (and recording engineer for the album). Works include compositions by Heitor Villa-Lobos, Darius Milhaud, and Francisco Mignone.
